Apex Shooting Center in Fort Lauderdale can handle all of your NFA purchase and transfer needs.  We have a Silencer Shop fingerprinting kiosk in our store so everything can be handled with “one stop shopping”.

What is an NFA Item?

An “NFA item” refers to a firearm or firearm accessory that is regulated under the National Firearms Act (NFA), which means it requires specific legal steps to purchase, own, and transfer, including registration with the government and obtaining a tax stamp; common examples of NFA items include machine guns, silencers, short-barreled rifles, and short-barreled shotguns.

How do I send my NFA transfer to Apex?

Please fill out our transfer form and we will send your dealer our FFL and SOT.  They will then ship us the NFA item and we will complete the process outlined below to transfer it to you.

How much does it cost to purchase an NFA item?

While the price of the actual firearm or suppressor can vary dramatically, the taxes and fees are the same.

  • NFA Tax Stamp – $211.15.  The ATF charges us a $200 tax stamp.  The additional $11.15 relates to processing costs passed through to us.
  • ATF Form 4 Processing Fee – $25.  This fee is a pass-through fee that we pay Silencer Shop for the use of their technology to process the Form 4.  This fee does not apply if you purchase from Silencer Shop and have the item transferred to us.
  • FDLE Background Check Fee – $5.  This fee applies to all firearm purchases and is a pass-through fee that we get charged to run a background check.
  • NFA Transfer Fee – $100.  To complete an NFA transfer of an item you purchased elsewhere, we charge a $100 transfer fee.  This fee covers the time needed by our staff to handle your item and complete all required paperwork, both internally and with you.  This fee does not apply if you purchase the item directly from us, or if you purchase from Silencer Shop and have the item transferred to us.

How do I purchase a suppressor (or other NFA Item) from Apex?

The team at Apex can help you purchase an NFA item that we have in stock or we can special order one for you if we don’t have it.  After your purchase is complete, we must submit an ATF “Form 4” and have it be approved by the ATF and FBI.  Here is the outline of the full transfer process:

  1. Using the kiosk in our store, we will create your Silencer Shop account, enter all demographic information, digitize your fingerprints and take your picture.
  2. We submit the order for the Form 4 to Silencer Shop.  They then review the information to make sure it is complete and correct.
  3. When the review is complete, Silencer Shop will send you a Docusign to confirm your information is correct.  Please review and sign this document when you receive it.  Typical review time is 1-3 business days.
  4. Using the instructions below, please either create an account on the ATF “Eforms” website or if you already have an account then verify that you have access to the required information.
  5. When the form is ready for certification (submission to the ATF) we will need to schedule a 10-15 minute phone call with you when you’ll be at your computer with the required information from step 4.
  6. After certification, we wait for the ATF to approve the Form 4 and issue the tax stamp.  Though it seems difficult to predict how long this will take, current stats on wait times for all Silencer Shop customers are listed at https://www.silencershop.com/atf-wait-times.  We will notify you when we receive notice from the ATF that your tax stamp has been issued.
  7. Visit Apex to pick up your item.  You will be required to complete the ATF Form 4473 and and FDLE background check as you would for any other firearm.  Please bring your FL driver’s license with you.

ATF Eforms Account Instructions

To finish your NFA purchase and complete your ATF Form 4, you will need an ATF Eforms account using the same email address as your Silencer Shop account.  If you do not have an account use the instructions below to create one.

To create an account:

  • On your computer, visit https://eforms.atf.gov/
  • Click the green “Register” buttonFill out the registration form using the same email and phone as your Silencer Shop account.
  • When you get down to PIN, create a 4 digit PIN and write it down – you will need it in the certification process.
  • After creating the account, click on the “My Profile” tab.
  • Make note of the username, which is 6 characters of your name then 5 random numbers. For example Mr. Johnny Silencer’s username would be something like JSILEN98765.  Also note that this is different from the email address “username” that you use to log into eforms.

If you already have an account:

  • Visit https://eforms.atf.gov/ and log in.
  • Click the “My Profile” tab.
  • Make note of the username, which is 6 characters of your name then 5 random numbers.  For example Mr. Johnny Silencer’s username would be something like JSILEN98765.  Also note that this is different from the email address “username” that you use to log into eforms.
  • If you know your 4-digit PIN, then all good.  If not, click on the “Password/PIN/Security” tab and scroll down to “Forgotten PIN”.  Follow the instructions to create a new PIN and write it down.
